Lugar y fecha de nacimiento. David Thewlis (1963 - ) Biography from Baseline Occupation: Actor Born: c.1963, Blackpool, England Education: Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, England Thewlis is a gangly actor who won widespread critical raves for his riveting performance as a scruffy, homeless intellectual who howls in bars, manically quotes Nostradamus and the Book of Revelations, and uses his sexual appetite as a means to vent his spleen in Mike Leigh's controversial art-house hit, NAKED (1993). A punk guitarist in his teens, he gained considerable acting experience in London and regional theaters and British TV-movies. Thewlis first worked with Leigh on the 18-minute comedy THE SHORT AND CURLIES (1987), and later played the sincere, gum-chewing boyfriend of a woman involved with him largely for the sex in the lighthearted LA VIDA ES FORMIDABLE (1991). He has played small parts in other films (a guard at the opening of THE TRIAL, 1993) and a few prominent roles (an amnesiac in RESURRECTED, 1989), but it was his performance in NAKED (1993) which really established him. Thewlis was promptly summoned to Hollywood to act in a remake of BLACK BEAUTY (1994). That same year Thewlis appeared as a thoroughly repugnant villain in the third installment of the British TV detective series Prime Suspect. He next portrayed the dissolute poet Paul Verlaine, who becomes enmeshed in a love affair with the younger poet Arthur Rimbaud (Leonardo DiCaprio) in Agnieszka Holland's EL FUEGO Y LA SOMBRA (1995), and a doctor in a Quaker hospice in 17th Century England in RESTAURACION (1995) (both 1995). 1987 THE SHORT AND CURLIES performer 1988 LITTLE DORRIT/LITTLE DORRIT'S STORY/NOBODY'S FAULT performer 1988 VROOM performer 1989 RESURRECTED performer 1989 SKULDUGGERY performer 1992 AFRAID OF THE DARK performer 1993 NAKED (1993) performer 1993 THE TRIAL performer 1996 JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH performer
