Lugar y fecha de nacimiento. Herbert Marshall (1890 - 1966) Actor Born: May 23, 1890, London, England Died: 1966 Suave leading man and character star of the British and American stage and films. He began as an apprentice with a London accounting firm and while serving as a business manager for an impresario took an interest in acting. He made his stage debut in Brighton in 1911 and began appearing on the London stage soon after. He lost a leg in WWI action but successfully disguised the handicap during his long stage and screen career. During the 20s he commuted frequently between London and New York and became established as a popular leading man in theaters on both sides of the Atlantic. In 1928 he married actress Edna Best and they appeared together in many stage productions, soon becoming one of the more popular teams of their time. They divorced in 1940. His four other wives included actress Boots Mallory. Marshall made his screen debut in England in 1927 but his first important film, LA CARTA (1940), opposite Jeanne Eagels, was made in 1929 in Hollywood. Despite appearances in several early British talkies, he remainedprimarily a stage actor until 1932, when he began concentrating exclusively on films. He settled in Hollywood, where he soon became typecast as a sober, urbane, mature romantic lead. But advancing age and his reserved manner gradually forced him into character parts, which he played ably, relying on a charming personality and a mellifluous voice. In a career that spanned four decades, he appeared opposite many of Hollywood's most glamorous female stars in many memorable films. He died of a heart attack.
