USA (1958 -). Actor, productor y guionista norteamericano nacido el 22 de Junio de 1958 en Royal Oak, Michigan. Campbell captivated a cult following with his increasingly antic portrayals of Ash, the embattled Regular Guy protagonist of Sam Raimi EVIL DEAD trilogy. He debuted as the resourceful survivor of a hellish weekend in the relatively sober horror landmark DIABOLICO (1983) and went gleefully over-the-top in the black comedy sequel NOCHE ALUCINANTE (1987). Exquisitely cartoonish, Ash came to suggest an INDIANA JONES as rendered by a demonic Tex Avery. Campbell's third film, ARMY OF DARKNESS (1993), was a full-fledged lampoon of recent movie heroes. Campbell plays an action hero badly but brilliantly. DIABOLICO (1983) resulted from Campbell's longstanding relationship with high school chums Ivan and Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert. He starred in their student films at Michigan State University. Campbell is a regular performer in cheapie genre foddersome direct-to-videoproduced by a minor league Who's Who of the field: MANIAC COP (1988) and MANIAC COP 2 (1990), both directed by former porn director William B. Lustig and written and produced by low-rent auteur Larry Cohen; SUNDOWN (1991), a Western vampire spoof, and WAXWORK II: LOST IN TIME (1992), a time-travel horror comedy, both directed by the resourceful Anthony (HELLRAISER III) Hickox. He has also worked behind the camera: executive producer (DIABOLICO (1983), EASY WHEELS, 1989); co-producer (CRIMEWAVE, DIABOLICO (1983) II, 1987, and ARMY OF DARKNESS); and producer (LUNATICOS (1992)). Campbell made his TV debut on the short-lived interracial TV soap Generations, but he graduated to primetime as the star of the Fox TV series The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. (1993-94). A western spoof reminiscent of The Wild Wild West and BLAZING SADDLES, the show boasted Campbell's admirably straight-faced portrayal of a Western hero that harks back to the serials of old.
