Lugar y fecha de nacimiento. Valerie Bertinelli (1960 - ) Actress Born: April 23, 1960, Wilmington, DE Small-screen teen queen of the 1970s and 80s with flowing, face-framing brunette hair, a button nose and a precocious manner. Along with the more tomboyish Kristy McNichol, Bertinelli was the most popular TV adolescent of her day, largely thanks to her role as Barbara Cooper, the younger daughter of divorced mother Ann Romano (Bonnie Franklin), on the CBS sitcom, One Day at a Time (CBS). So popular was Bertinelli that Barbara's TV marriage in 1982 received the kind of ballyhoo that had attended Deanna Durbin's first screen kiss four decades earlier in FIRST LOVE (1939). By contrast, Bertinelli's real-life 1981 marriage to rock star Eddie Van Halen was hushed up by CBS publicists, who wanted public attention to remain focused on the fictional Barbara Cooper and HER fiancé. Since One Day went off the air, Bertinelli has kept busy with a series of TV movies, generally more dramatic than the material she tackled while she was still on the show (e.g. THE PRINCESS AND THE CABBIE, 1981, I WAS A MAIL ORDER BRIDE, 1982). The only member of the show's cast to continue as a TV star, Bertinelli formed her own production company and has sought to transcend the angelic cheerleader cuteness which made her famous. Her TV movies have included SHATTERED VOWS (1984), THE SEDUCTION OF GINA (1984), TESTIGO DE VIOLACION (1985), TAKEN AWAY (1989), and IN A CHILD'S NAME (1991), and though several have been little more than pulp melodrama, Bertinelli's unaffected modesty and sincerity have kept her a popular star on primetime.
