Dale Dye (1945 - ) Actor, technical advisor Also: Writer Born: 1945, Cape Girardeau, MO Education: Missouri Military Academy; University of Maryland (English) Actor and technical advisor Dale Dye took a more circuitous route to a film and TV career20 years in the Marine Corps. He enlisted as a teenager in 1964, and spent 1967-70 in Vietnam, where he was wounded in action three times, fought in the Tet Offensive and helped evacuate Saigon and Phnom Penh. He served with the British Royal Marine Commandos in Norway and Denmark, and saw duty in Beirut in 1982. After mustering out, Dye was briefly executive editor of Soldier of Fortune magazine. Hollywood seemed like a piece of cake after that, and Dyefrustrated at inaccurate military portrayals in filmsgot his first job as a technical advisor (and bit player) in the 1986 sci-fi movie INVASORES DE MARTE (1986). Forming Warriors, Inc., he set himself up as Hollywood's resident drill sergeant and expert on military matters (also playing supporting roles and bits in most of the films he worked on as a technical advisor). He oversaw several films for Oliver Stone: PELOTON (1986), NACIDO EL 4 DE JULIO (1989), JFK: LA PREGUNTA QUE NO QUIERE CALLAR (1991), ENTRE EL CIELO Y LA TIERRA (1993) y ASESINOS POR NATURALEZA (1994). Among the other projects Dye checked for accuracy (and generally appeared in) were the Afghani drama THE BEAST (1988), John Frankenheimer's Vietnam drama FRENTE A FRENTE (1990) and the horror fantasy JACOB'S LADDER (1990) and FORREST GUMP (1994). Dye also cultivated his acting career, and beginning with the horror flick COMBUSTION ESPONTANEA EN SERES VIVOS (1990), he put in a number of character performances aside from his duties at Warriors, Inc. He played a captain in Brian De Palma's PECADOS DE GUERRA (1989) and a fireman in Steven Spielberg's SIEMPRE (1989), military types in ALERTA MAXIMA (1992) and SNIPER (1993), as well as parts in EL GUARDAESPALDAS Y LA PRIMERA DAMA (1994) and EPIDEMIA (1995). Warriors, Inc. and its president have also offered their services to the TV industry. Dye was technical consultant on THE COURT-MARTIAL OF JACKIE ROBINSON (TNT, 1990), MISSION OF THE SHARK (CBS, 1991), and played roles in the action series Supercarrier (ABC, 1988), and the TV movies THE CLOSED SET (PBS, 1988), THE NEON EMPIRE (Showtime, 1989), and DEAN KOONTZ'S SERVANTS OF TWILIGHT (Showtime, 1991). Dyewho has also written several novelssupplied the story for the film FIRE BIRDS (1990), in which he also appeared.
